SMM11 8-Outotec has signed a contract for the front-end engineering design of the new copper smelter in Sanbawa Benite Bay, Indonesia.

The contract, worth about 10 million euros, has been booked in Outotec's order for the fourth quarter of 2018.

The scope of Outotec's project covers the design of the entire copper smelter. The project covers facilities such as electrolytic refineries, slag concentrators, precious metal refineries, moisture purification, and wastewater treatment plants and their related infrastructure. The design of Outotec will be completed within the next nine months and will be based on the 2017 feasibility study. Once completed, the new smelter plans to mainly process Indonesian copper concentrate.

PT Amman Mining has set strict design standards for copper smelters to prove that the technology meets international environmental standards.

"We would like to see the company achieve its goal of sustainable production by designing copper smelters based on the world's most advanced technology," said Kalle H ü rkki, head of metals, energy and water resources at Outotec.
